Truly I tell you, whatever
you did for the least of these
brothers and sisters of mine,
you did for Me.

It all began on a bench and a case of mistaken identity involving a homeless man.

I had been touching base with a homeless man I called Cowboy off-and-on for several years. While watching his health decline, my husband and I wondered if we could give him an opportunity to get off the street.

I had approached a stranger thinking HE was Cowboy and made the offer. “Yes”, he said, “but why do you call me Cowboy? You must have mistaken me for my friend Casey, but he died two weeks ago on that bench next to me.” He still took us up on the offer and after working with him for 18 months while he was at the Salvation Army and since moving into his own apartment, Zachariah is now my partner in Paying it Forward with Kindness.

We are focused on guiding those presently homeless, but they are willing to realize and reach their potential, and to someday be in a position to pay their successful journey forward. We will search for persons willing to make a commitment to take that first step, namely by allowing us to join them and walk the path along with them.  It is a blessing to be a conduit of Gods’ Grace working through this program.

Part of the support may be helping with the process of obtaining such things as their birth certificate, ID card, Social Security Card, Food Stamps, Section 8 Housing, SSI/SSDI.  We will work with them to achieve a better quality of life within a year, at which point we hope they will want to pay it forward themselves.

We will know we are successful when we see growth in a healthier body and soul! We plant the seeds, someone else waters, but it is God who makes it grow. When we can see Him at work then we can know that we are doing His work not ours.
